ADVICE ON COMPLETING TAX RETURNS WITH VIEW TO GET REFUND ON TRAVEL KILOMETERS

    [Hi

I desperately need advice on how best to do my tax returns in such a way that I can get refund from SARS. Each time I do my returns I end up owing SARS.

My travel allowance which I structured myself is R5000 per month.

How many kilos do I have to travel in order to get a refund or AT LEAST not end up owing SARS.

    Any help please??

Hi there, I am wondering how and why you would be structuring your salary yourself and then be wanting to manipulate your km to match such. According to the tax rulings you may only allocate the km actually traveled for business purposes, excluding those traveled between your home and place of work, against a travel allowance. Possibly this is why you end up owing SARS each year?

    Hi

Thanks so much for your response. The reason I m asking this advice is that it appears that the reason I always owe SARS is due to the fact that either my car allowance is set too high thereby resulting in me travelling less kilos. So my question really is can anyone out there help me to record my kilos correctly based on my current car allowance or perhaps let me consider lowering my allowance. Whatever the option I dont want to owe SARS anymore. I am prepared to pay for this service.

    Hi
Do you travel from work to clients?
If so, do you keep a logbook of these trips?

    Hi Andromeda
Yes I do travel from work to clients, and sometimes from home to clients and back home (especiallyfor long overnite trips). I do keep a log of these business trips. Im just wondering if the total kilos i travel are lower in relation to my car allowance? Hence leading to SARS penalising me?

Do you travel less than 12 000km per tax year for business purposes?
