    VAT on invoices

    Good Afternoon,

I am very glad i have come across this forum. Just reading some of the threads i have had questions answered.

I have received a Tax invoice from a panel beater for the excess i paid and they have not charged vat. According to them there is no VAT on an excess which is paid.

    Is this correct?

    Thank you

SARS clarifies this issue in Binding General Ruling (VAT) NO: 14 dated 22nd March 2013. The most pertinent bit is covered here.

Bottom line - Provided the panel beater is a registered VAT vendor (and they are likely to be), there is supposed to be VAT raised on the excess invoice.
