Inventory setup, differentiate between new and refurbished

Hi, how do I setup my Pastel Partner inventory to differentiate between NEW and REFURBISHED items.

For e.g I have tires that I purchase from supplier and create serial numbers for each tire.

However if the tire needs to be re threaded then I would send it to the relevant company / supplier and when I receive my re threaded tires I would like them to be marked as refurbished and if the tires have been sent for re threading for e.g max 3x, I would like to discard it.

Not sure if I should use groups or categories to achieve this. Please help.

Groups or categories will not help, if you are keeping the same inventory code for the new and refurbished items. You can only have one category or group per inventory code.

The only viable option is to use the multi-store module, where you can maintain the same inventory code for each tyre, with the store location differentiating between the new and refurbished tyres. You can have more than one store code per inventory code.

If you do not have the multi-store module, send me a PM or email.

Thanks Neville for your help, I do have the multi stores module installed.
I am not sure if this is a silly question, but would your method allow me to also retain the serial numbers that I have already created for the tires?

Yes, the serial numbers will follow the tyres into whichever store you allocate them.
