    Neotel VDSL vs Telkom ADSL

I have been experiencing frustrations with my Telkom ADSL line (which is being managed by Afrihost), with fluctuating download speeds, often slowing down to less than 1 Mbps. Even after various tests by Afrihost and logging faults with Telkom, the frustrations continue.

Unfortunately fibre is not yet available in my area, otherwise I would have switched over without hesitation.

However, I have been approached by a service provider DSL Telecom Connect, who are offering me Neotel VDSL packages with 20/40 Mbps speeds.

Any issues that I need to be aware of? Will it be worth my while switching to VDSL until fibre is available?

I have no idea about them Neville, but am always very hesitant to sign a contract with a service provider before even checking it out. All these guys "guarantee" a certain speed but when it comes to crunch time then you are the one that is tied up.
I had the same problem with Telkom adsl at home and no fibre etc etc - i did a lot of research and eventually came up with the Telkom LTE - cost me R600 per month with 50 gigs available plus 50gigs nighttime. I get speeds up to 40mbs. I have never looked back.

I use a lot more data than you (an average of 15 GB per day), so the Telkom LTE option, although fast and stable, will be far too expensive for me.

At the moment I am paying a total of R968 per month for 600 GB per month.

I do see, however, that they are digging trenches in my road and laying multi-coloured cables in them, so maybe fibre will be here soon!

My concern with VDSL is that it's still going through the Telkom fixed line infrastructure, and there seems little doubt that infrastructure has its problems in at least the Durban North area at the moment - and quite possibly wider than that.

    That won't be VDSL.

There is no VDSL option with that configuration. I am on the fastest VDSL configuration available and it's only possible because I live pretty much on the exchange itself hehehe.

    VDSL is 20/2 40/3

    I am on 45/5

Unless you mean they offered you VDSL 20Mbps download or VDSL 40Mbps download in which case don't use neotel just walk into telkom and buy a VDSL 40Mbps line it will cost R520p/m and vdsl is amazing.
