    UIF and Sold Business

    Good Day

I would like some assistance, please. I had a worker that was employed by me, my business for a year. The business was then sold and this specific worker worked for the new owners of the business for less than a month. He was then fired.

I would like to know how is responsible for this workers UIF because at the time of his dismissal, the business was not in my name anymore.

    Thanks

In a nutshell, the business is his employer and it is responsible.

Now for the detail, as always...

Is the business incorporated, or a sole proprietor?

Hi Johan. Then the employer is the close corporation, not you, and by default that means the new member of the close corporation.

JohanPG... did you take him off your UIF when you sold the business? Or was it sold as a going concern? A final UI19 must be submitted to DoL stating the reason why he lost his job, his last wage, last day of work etc. DoL will then determine if he can claim or not. As long as all UI19's was submitted when he was still in your employ, there should not be a problem?
always fear when Christel is near....
