Looking for joiner to build built in cupboards in CPT

My building is coming closer to completion and I need to get quotes for BIC. My builder struggles to find someone reliable8/wothwhile. All people he had been recommended do not come or worse pitch an then do not quote. Of course google will bring up plenty, but I do not want to use just anybody, only people who people have made good experiences with and who do not rip people off.

The guy who did our kitchen 9 years ago vanished too.

Any recommendations? Remember, got to be Cpae Town.

I'm trying to remember who I got into this topic with some years ago on TFSA, but it comes from the angle -

Do you really get real carpenters and joiners anymore?

Nowadays the best strategy seems to be to find a cupboard manufacturer that you're happy with, and have them recommend a contractor to fit their cupboards.

Yes, you are probably right. It most likely does not require a qulaified "joiner" to do a basic cupboard installation. They just give the dimensions to a bordd seller, their computer makes a cutting list and off we go - jhe just assembles and installs it.... However, the finishes can differ in quality and I do need people who can make it in the first attempt without going backards and forwards to rectify errors.

That's exactly why the thought is to go to a suitable manufacturer. It's where the skill and precision in measure and design resides nowadays. And you can usually look at the quality of their finished product as part of the selection process before ordering too. From there, my experience is they'll send someone to measure up, agree the design etc.

Maybe I misunderstood. What is a "manufacturer" then? The people who sell and cut the boards? They might get commission for referrals so they would recomment anyone who pays them. Also they are not the end users and never see the installed product. I am looking for people (end users like me) who made good experiences with a BIC installation and then can recommend those installers to me.

I have previously had good results from Johan Stolk, been in the cupboard business for donkeys years and lives somewhere in the southern suburbs. Can't remember what his business is called but his cell number is 072 591 2523.

Gavin from Bespoke Bamboo is your man. Gavin does great work and I can vouch for his character. Although he specializes in Bamboo furniture he is happy to work with other types of wood.

I am not trying to hard sell you on Gavin. We are a group of small businesses that try to market one another but that said, Gavin does beautiful work. He operates from a workshop in Maitland/Kensigton

BTW: Bamboo Warehouse often refers work to him so that should speak volumes for the quality of his workmanship.

Thanks Adrian. noted. Sounds more like real furniture though as opposed to boxy simple BIC.
