    Compliance Testing Bundu generators...

Please could someone shed some light on how to test a Bundu generator...
I have put my loop tester on the installation to test once the gennie was installed and I am getting some very interestingly illegal readings!
My loop reading is around 7 ohms (way too high), and my PSCC reading is around 48A (way too low)!!
The neutral is earthed and the installation tests perfectly when on mains supply...
I have phoned Bundu on a few occasions and just get given the run around and no one comes back to me.
They say that no one has ever asked them this question before??!
If so, then either, A, every sparky in SA knows exactly how to CoC a Bundu gennie, or B, (my guess) is that no one is CoC'ing them at all!
    Well, not the Bundu's anyway...
My client is waiting for his certificate but I cannot issue it as the readings are illegal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Si

Ps: My mate has the exact same make and model Bundu and I tested his and got almost identical illegal readings...??!

Can you maybe give a link to the particular generator you have?

What instrument did you do your loop test with and how did you do the test?

The problem with arriving at a PSCC or PFC for a generator is that you don't know how it will behave under fault conditions. There's components such as the built-in voltage regulator that will limit the current in a short circuit fault and the manufacturers should publish these specifications.

    Hi there Andy,
    It is a BP5S Bundu, 5kW Gennie.
I have a Toptronic T1125 Loop Tester which I have cut the ends of the leads off and wired into a plug top.
I usually bridge the earth leakage unit and test at the furthest plug socket away from the mainboard to get my results.
As the results were not acceptable, I isolated the entire installatio and tested straight from the plug point on the gennie housing and still received the results indicated.
I have spoken repeatedly to Bundu and they do not seem to know what is going on
    many thanks for your time

Is a V-O-V gennie? Maybe that's why they are illegal to use connected to a fixed installation? There is NO REAL NEUTRAL or PE.

    LOOP TEST

    Page 256 (b)

    (7.12.2.7 A 230 V generator with a V-O-V earth connection (centre tap on
winding which is earthed), shall not be connected to a fixed electrical
    installation. Amdt 6

NOTE Such a generator may be used as a free-standing unit to provide power to
    specific appliances.)

My Bundu WYE 3 Phase gennies loop test and pscc test all ok. Star (wye) winding have a Earthed Neutral on central starpoint.

Some reading on gennies etc. Click on the various pages to continue reading on that site.

    and a nice summary.
