    Notice period and public holidays

    Hello,
I would like to know, my husband needs to give 5 workings days' notice to terminate his employment. How would this work w.r.t. all the public holidays coming up in March... He does not normally work on a public holiday.
He would like to finish work on 29th March 2016, i.e. that being his last working day. So would he need to give notice on the 18th or 23rd?

    thanks

Legislation does not "discriminate" against public holidays in the case of notice periods. A week's notice, two weeks' notice or a month's notice starts today and ends when that period is over. A five day notice period assumes that it is a week's notice (if he had been employed for less than three months), whatever the status of those days.

Ph is a benefit of the employee, not the employer, so he may give 5 days notice including any ph, BUT if he worked for me and did that id take it personally since you cant really hand anything over in 5 days much less if it spans ph days. Don't burn bridges, keep in mind the impact on his employer en colleagues.
