    INSETA Funding Consultants and Fees

We are a small insurance business with one admin lady that we would like to up-skill. We have asked a company to do a quote for us to help in applying for funding through INSETA and she has come back with a figure of R6985.00 for eight hours of work. They label themselves HR specialists, but at R750/hour I'm starting to wonder where they are hiding their doctor's degrees.

Are these prices realistic? I'm looking for some other quotes and was hoping someone on here could point me to a company/person who can assist with this matter.

That sounds very expensive. I have used Brian Jude for many of his morning courses for our girls, from sales to admin to how to answer the telephone correctly etc etc. His costs are R695.00 for a morning - His courses are fun and quite beneficial. I have also sent a girl on a bookeeping course somewhere else for about 6 weeks and that wasn't even that expensive.

And people wonder why the SETA system isn't particularly effective - way too much of the money is going to the consultants.

And it's no accident, of course. The system was designed by consultants, who made things so complicated and rigorous you need to hire a consultant to navigate you through the maze before you can get to a dime.

Then just as it seemed everything was sorted out and we wouldn't need consultants nearly as much anymore, along came the OFO concept. Back to square one with another three ring circus...

I think R6,985 for 8 hours of specialist consulting intended to produce a direct financial benefit is pretty reasonable. The real issue here is the cost-benefit ratio. How much training do you intend to organise and how does the expected monetary value of of a successful SETA claim compare to the cost of applying? If you are only training one person, then the claim benefits are very unlikely to justify the cost of applying. Unfortunately, this is precisely why the SETA system has zero relevance for many small enterprises. The skills development levy contributions from SMEs basically subsidise large organisations that enjoy a much more attractive cost-benefit ratio (which is, of course, completely and utterly ludicrous).

Personally I think that is merely a symptom of a deeper problem. Is the complexity actually required (especially at the small enterprise level)?

No, it's needlessly complex - like just about every other regulatory issue affecting SMEs.

u think that cost is reasonable for a SME ? ( For one admin lady he wants to up skill ) !!
That is extremely high and can be obtained for less.

If it was R6,985 for 8 hours of training then it would be utterly unreasonable. But for 8 hours of consulting to secure a SETA claim, I think it is reasonable. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it probably isn't worthwhile for a small business to bother with a SETA claim if they are only training a few people. But that has less to do with the cost and more to do with the poor comparative benefits.

That 8 hours is not guaranteed to result in a successful claim though, that is my whole predicament. If I knew it would result a definitive savings I'd gladly pay it.

Assuming it is successful, what is the expected savings value?
