    Tax amnesty

Small businesses seeking tax amnesty must submit their required documents by Friday, SARS said yesterday.

After the deadline SARS will begin enforcement actions against taxpayers who have either not applied for amnesty or submitted an incomplete application,’ spokesperson Yolisa Pikie is quoted in a report on the IoL site as saying. The amnesty's success had indicated that many South Africans wanted to comply with tax obligations, she said.

I trust SARS has already informed any person who has submitted an incomplete application timeously of any requirements that remain unfulfilled. It would surely open SARS to procedural questions/issues otherwise.

Dave I heard an ad on KFM advising people that applied for amnesty to call and find out if SARS received their application forms and what there status are. I have applied for amnesty on behalf of a couple of clients and when calling the SARS office this afternoon (apart from the occational eish.... an auck.....) it seems that they do not have my client's applications on file, or it has not been processed yet. And I have a signed acknowledgement of receipt from their Bellville office! Was really cheezed off with the apparant incompetence of the people they employ (and best of all, we pay their salaries!)

I'd heard much the same - and I can see appeals coming from the lack of feedback.
