Necessary docs for SARS Review of Sole Prop's tax return

Please could someone advise me as to the necessary docs/pack which should be submitted (uploaded) to SARS if a Sole Prop's 2015 tax return has been selected for Review?
I see that this client's TP for the prior year just uploaded a listing of all their Invoices (invoice date, inv number, customer name, invoice total) and then for expenses, basically just drew up an income statement (no supporting docs or details were provided to SARS). They then also just uploaded the usual RA & medical aid tax certificates.
Doesn't SARS expect to see any supporting docs to corroborate the Sole Prop's expenses? Or do they contact you if they'd like to see more?
Is a list of all invoices adequate too (don't they want to see your actual invoices)?
Thanks in advance for any advice or personal experiences shared.

One of the frustrations that we face from SARS is not knowing exactly what they are querying ... so one sends what one thinks would be required and then you wait for them to contact you and ask for more anything more specific. You also have a limited no of documents that you can upload, so you have to make an educated guess. Sending a list of all invoices and a spreadsheet of the Sole prop's expenses would show how it was all worked out and gives them the opportunity of asking for specific invoices or proof.

Of course the 21 days delay between each request and reply also slows down the pay out considerably (if there is one).

For a "review" first upload financial statements, assuming you have them. If something appears very odd they will request further information.

If you do not have financial statements, prepare an analysis of each amount you specified in the income statement (especially) and the balance sheet. If something appears very odd they will request further information.

Only if further information is requested will it be necessary to submit source documents.
