    Scenario and Question

    Hi all

I have a scenario and a question which I would like an opinion on. Your input will be appreciated.

    Scenario 1

A house is inspected and the DB is located in the garage and close to the entrance to the house from the garage, the door is of an indoor wooden type and the wall is a fire barrier to the spread of fire. Is this door type suitable and what should be noted on the test report related to this type of door?

    Question

May a registered person issue a certificate of compliance in another province where he is not registered as an electrical contractor? Why?

    Regards

Can you maybe attach a picture of the door? Is the door enclosing the DB or are you meaning the door between the garage and the house? This sounds like it might be more of a building regs question/issue than an electrical one. If a fire barrier is compromised by a part of the electrical installation it would be required that the fire barrier is restored.

Again, maybe you can expand on what's on your mind. You about a registered electrician who isn't registered in a particular province. Registration of electricians is with the Department of Labour. Any electrician qualified and registered can operate in any part of the country.

The door is not suitable as it does not stop the spread of fire to main house from a garage. Door should be replaced by fireproof one.

    Hi Linken

Thank you for the reply, but how is a the door part of the fire barrier? The code states that a fire barrier should not loose its integrity by wiring passing through it, so how can a door be regarded as a fire barrier? The wiring is not going through the door?

If this is the case, every house with a DB in the garage must have a fire proof door that leads to the house. I have never seen such a door in any house.

I understand a fire barrier in the roof space, where a wall is build up to the roof to prevent fire.

    Thanks for the input
