    Evening

I have been asked to do the electrical installations for shipping containers that are to be sold as offices, I have been asked to issue COC's for the containers, is this possible as the container will be sold and connected to power on site where ever this may be.

    HI

All you can do is test and complete the COC for the address where the container is standing when you test.Make sure you stipulate which supply it comes from on the Erf - I would add a pic of the container standing in position to the coc

As soon as they move the container it will no longer be valid as the address has changed.
I assume the client wants a COC so that he is confident that the work has been carried out correctly
Make sure your client understands that the coc will only be valid within there yard and that you are not expected as part of your costs to travel to the other side of the world to test

SeanM on completion of a new installation you must issue a COC.On page 1 of the COC you leave out the adress, the rest must all be completed. On page 2 you leave out the adress, the type of supply system and the characteristics of the supply. Under the installation description you select 'other' and stipulate 'mobile'. On page three Your description of the installation must include the container identification number. All tests on the installation must be done and recorded. No tests are done and recorded pertaining to the supply. A temp supply is connected to do tests on the installation itself. Page 4 is completed as per a new installation.

    Morning Sparks

Thank you so much for this insight, it makes a lot of sense and I am more comfortable.

This would be similar to a compliance for a caravan I would image.

    Hi

I have com across a few installations were the 'electrician's' have come up with ways to by-pass the compliance!

The most recent was were they put a sub DB in and feed it from a socket outlet and passed the installation as they said it was not part of the installation as it was feed from the socket outlet with a plug.

I informed the owner that this was not correct and that the compliance is there as a safe guard from previous people/animals that have been hurt and lessons we have learnt from incidents that have caused damage and harm (the regulations have been written in blood)

Yes SeanM , a caravan would get a similar COC if it has a 220V installation. A Sub-DB may not be fed from a socket outlet is correct.

    Hi

Motors/pumps to be on an earth leakage yes/no, I can find no-where in the regulations where it requires a motor to be on an earth leakage.

    Any comments?

Read section 7.2.4.4 Water Pumps of SANS 10142-1.

Section 7 is to do with swimming pools , paddling pools , ornamental pools , spas and fountains - The ELU requirement comes into play

Section 6 deals with fixed appliance and 6.16.5 with regards to Motors - which does not require ELU protection but you need to check the application you are looking at against- 6.7.1 in particular 6.7.1.2

    Hi

Thank you DaveA and GCE, I understand water pumps being on an earth leakage I would of thought that all motors should be. This would be my personal preference but I suppose I cant enforce it if the regulations don't call for it.
