    eFiling and Sole Proprietor

    Hi
I have registered as an individual for e-Filing in 2006. Last year I started my own professional service business last year as a sole proprietor, so the e-Filing obviously remained as that for an individual, me. I later decided to put in a bid to buy a going concern and for this I registered a PTY Ltd with CIPC with me as the only director and no employees other than myself at that stage. I phoned SARS to ask how to register the PTY Ltd for e-Filing and they said I must convert my personal/individual one into one for an organisation with me as an employee.

The bid for the going concern was not successful, so I cancelled all the company stuff with SARS, and made the PTY Ltd dormant with CIPC (as recommended by CIPC as I want to keep the Pty Ltd for future use). The problem is I cannot convert the e-filing back to an individual, even though I have successfully cancelled all the relevant sections ie EMP201's etc on e-Filing. I want to continue trading as a sole proprietor as it is more advantageous for me to do so at this stage (small turnover and start-up business).

Can someone help me to convert the e-Filing back to that for an individual?

    Thanks
    Mo

This will have no effect on your personal income tax status. Just carry on with your efiling profile as is and submit your income tax as per usual.

Thanks for the reply, but I would like to change my e-filing profile back to that of an individual. Can someone please give me some guidance?

@MoVan, Why do you need to change your profile back to an individual profile?

If you need to, you have to go to USER -> CHANGE WEBSITE PROFILE, and choose INDIVIDUAL.

    Hi dellatjie

To answer your question I want to change back to my original individual profile because the PTY LTD is dormant and not trading. I have found the eFiling seems to work easier for me when I was registered as an Individual.

Thanks for your suggestion on how to change the profile, I have tried, but the system won't allow me as it instructs me to first delete the taxpayer (me) linked to the company before it can do convert back to individual. But this means I will loose 9 years worth of personal tax information and the company (now an individual - me) will have nothing in it.

MoVan, I would suggest creating a new profile for yourself. When you try to register your tax number it will say that it resides with somebody else. It will then give you the opportunity to lodge transfer request.

Once you have done so, log into the old profile and accede to the request.

All your history should pull through.
