Defensive Registrations of imminent new TLD's

Has anyone registered their domain names to protect themselves from squatters when the new South African gTLD's are introduced?

Where can you register these names I looked at elithost and they don't have an option for that. Hmm thebestprinterin.joburg sounds good. R800 for Werksman to reserve a name looks expensive for this.

    What happened to the .co's?
They had 1.4 million registrations but it seems as if that was a washout.
Is this perhaps just a money making racket for the new look registry?

For .joburg you have to preregisteter and pay the R800 or wait for it to open to the general public and do it through your webhost. The .co is available from elitehost.
I will wait for the general public slot and register a .joburg domain then
