Anyone with Experience with Customs please help.

    Hi Everybody,

Am looking at importing some fairy lights (LED and Solar Powered Lights) to hire out to wedding planners, DIY Brides as well privates decor during the festive season, i have been doing it for a year now.The only problem is, the locally sourced ones that i have found do not give a wide choice in colours and sizes that clients are looking for and am losing business.

Now, i found a supplier in China who manufactures them and they are cheaper. I intend travelling there myself so that i can choose quality lights than have them courier or post my first consignment to me, only to find the goods are rubbish.

I have imported a few things but those have been delivered to my door because they were under R400.

    Questions:

    1. Is there any documentation i need to import LED and Solar Powered Lights apart from the normal Importers code?
    2. How much VAT will i pay? Estimate?
    4. Do i need SABS approval or??

Am clueless when it comes to custom clearing, please help.

    Thank you so much.

Work through a clearing agent. I brought a laser cutter in from China and all the paperwork was handled by Berry & Donaldson. http://www.berrydon.co.za/

They can tell you everything you need to know and they are even able to put your order into their own shared containers. I was able to track the machine from the moment is left the factory right to my doorstep.
