    Cloud based software

    Hi guys
I am looking at changing the software we use for quoting job management and invoicing. My current system costs R700 per month. I have found another software which has more features and caters better for the future of printing business models.

My dilemma is the new software can either be used as a local software or a cloud based software the local software cost R700 per month and the cloud based R400 per month. The company says the software is the same whether

Does anyone use cloud based software how do you find it? What are the pros and cons for your software?

I need to get my mindset right for cloud based software.

When your internet connection goes down so does your software.

That is my major concern as well as response times. My current software is a bit slow when it does a complex quote as the systems have a lot of interdependent variables. EG when doing an NCR book quote you need to cater for extra setup paper if you are numbering the pages.
At least this is hosted in Cape Town.

In addition to the above I am not sure about giving your db away to a nebulous scenario.

I'm very weary of the whole cloud based idea given that our communications and electrical networks are so unstable. I also prefer to have to have Pastel etc. on a laptop so that we are able to work away from the office.

It's already bad enough trying to use a Speedpoint and their communication protocols are hyper compact and super fast...

I'd consider it one day when we have proper high speed connectivity with a stable electrical supply.

OK I got the total wrong impression on pricing. I phoned the company and the cloud fee is just the cost of the cloud based server and not the monthly software fee.
So the decision is easy nothing on the cloud.
