APPLICATION FOR CANCELLATION OF EMPLOYEE TAX

    Hi All

Any-one know what the procedure is for the above, I have completed the relevant form: EMP123. 1. Can I fax it to a particular number, 2. Drop it off at the SARS Branch reception? 3. Drop it in the Mail-Box at SARS Branch 4. Send it Registered Mail [What address, would I use?]. or the 5th option which would be the most time consuming one 5. Wait in the queue to hand it to a Consultant.

Would appreciate advice from some-one who has experience with this.

    Hi there,
We are tax practitioners, and we normally hand it in at SARS.
I would recommend you make a copy of the emp123, then hand it in and ask them to stamp your copy as proof.

You also need to make sure there is nothing outstanding on your PAYE account as this will hold up the process. SARS do not "back date" de-registrations, you would have to make sure all is up to date as at today's date and by the time they are ready to de-register, then all must be up to date too, i.e. maybe you would have to submit the emp501 201402. You cannot de-register in the middle of a tax year... you must wait for the end (meaning the emp501).
And remember, everything takes 21 + working days at SARS.
    Good luck.

What I really need to know is, do you hand it in at the "reception" or do they give you a ticket to see a consultant? . Currently, when I request an appointment with the tax practitioner's unit, the first available appointment is 2 weeks ahead, and not always convenient as I may have a busy workload on that particular day.

Was not aware of this fact!

    Hi,
We have appointments to see the consultants twice a week, so we hand it to them and get a bar-coded reference number for each case. But, I'm sure you don't have to see a consultant, but it might be worth your while?
