    Overtime Pay?

Can any one advise me what the overtime rates are for overtime, with a breakdown of the rates in hours per week.

When I was an appy, it used to be the first 6 hours of over time per week (over your normal hours per week) was at time and a third (Hourly rate x 1.33), there after it became time and a half ( hourly rate x 1.5). Public holidays and Sundays was twice the hourly rate.

Same still applies for the building industry. You can see more on the Bargaining Council website www.bibc.co.za

    The BCEA is as follows:
    (1) Subject to this Chapter, an employer may not require or permit an employee— (a) to work overtime except in accordance with an agreement; (b) to work more than— (i) three hours’ overtime a day; or (ii) ten hours’ overtime a week. (2)An employer must pay an employee at least one and one-half times the employee’s wage for overtime worked.

Certain industries may have sectoral agreements with different rates. Some have Sunday pay as time and a half, not double etc.

There are also provisions for averaging and compressed working weeks.

    Thanks for the confirmation.
If you look closely at the don'ts, it is obvious they wish you to employ more staff, which sounds grand, but as a manufacturer, one starts looking at the cost of automation becoming more affordable.
