VAT refunds and correspondence on eFiling

I received a notification to check eFiling for correspondence from SARS.

Luckily it was easy to find, just go to SARS correspondence -> Search letters -> Select the correct return type (VAT201 which I knew from the reference number in the notification text message) -> Search. Ah, there it is!

Our last VAT return resulted in a credit due to an import/export project, and SARS would like some supporting documentation which I can apparently submit via eFiling.

How do I submit the docs on eFiling? This unfortunately was not as obvious as finding the letter from SARS, and I haven't yet figured out how to get the docs uploaded. If someone can point me to the correct menu item I would appreciate it.

Hi duncan - go to Returns History
Click on "open" for the return that they are reviewing.
On the top right hand side it tells you how many letters have been written to you.
Underneath it gives you the options of Query/Request for correction/Request Statement/Upload documents for review

Click on "Upload documents for review" - you can now scan them in directly, or you can browse your documents and upload them one by one.
When you are finished uploading them, you can check them to see if you have the correct ones uploaded, and remove or upload others if necessary.
Once you are happy that all are uploaded, you submit the "batch" of documents by giving it a name or accepting the default name. You cannot upload any more until they activate that option for you again.

Sounds and looks a bit complicated at first, but once you have done it, you realise that it is actually pretty straightforward.

Just don't push the wrong button.
I did in May - so they say - when submitting my vat return.
    That was subsequently corrected.
Then I received the same notification that you did - check efiling for correspondence.
Now they want all my documentation and stuff for another verification audit.
Punished for pushing the wrong button.
This is the third time since I started efiling, two years ago - I am thinking I would rather stand in the bimonthly q and do returns like we used to. At least I knew that my stuff was there, received, scanned for errors and paid - no comebacks over many years.

Thanks for the help with this Mike. It is certainly straightforward, I just wish that they would bother to include some hint as to what to do in the email that they send to you.

All docs submitted, now just waiting for a response.
