    Cry the Beloved Wealth Creator

Are you a business owner? Then you probably can relate to this article by Temba A Nolutshungu.

A brave man decides to risk his life’s savings, to invest in a new business. He works tirelessly, exercising his intellect, skill, diligence and creativity. He produces new innovative products and services. He employs first one, then more people, some previously unemployed. He trains and up-skills them until they can perform a wide range of useful and marketable functions. He nurtures his enterprise and develops more cost-effective means of production. This affords his patrons access to sorely needed or desired commodities at the lowest possible prices. Eventually after a gargantuan effort, the business begins to make a profit and to provide a much deserved return.

And then, our wealth creator is approached by a bureaucrat who demands that he give away a considerable portion of his profit or face being fined or jailed. The wealth creator has harmed no-one. To the contrary, he is making an invaluable contribution to the economy and has enhanced the lives of the people he employs. Yet he finds himself vilified and at the whim of the bureaucrat. Any non-cooperation could literally lead to the loss of his business and imprisonment.

    This is legalised theft.

I confess, it does make me feel a tad angry.

This is the way of the world. Look at USA the big fight why the Government there is in partial shutdown as the the one side sees Obamacare as the few paying for the many.
    Will this change?

Here is an interesting view from the Economist
Business in South Africa is part of the racket. It feigns to loathe costly regulations but in fact red tape makes it harder for job-creating start-ups to challenge established businesses. The IMF notes that the rate of creation and survival of new companies is one of the lowest in the world. This is a sweet deal for incumbent firms, which are more profitable in South Africa than their peers in many emerging markets, including Brazil, China, India and Russia. The lack of competition imposes an additional cost (over forgone jobs) on poor households in the form of high prices. Full article here
Will we end up like Australia were shelf packers in Australia earn more than Engineers in South Africa?

Here's another piece of the madness:

    Numsa rejects BMW 'blackmail':

Germany's BMW said last week it was no longer considering expanding production in South Africa because of the labour unrest.

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA has dismissed the move as brinkmanship, and said the German car maker must seek the union's approval before trying to increase the size of its operations.

"The blackmail by BMW is rejected with the contempt it deserves," Jim said.
    WTF!

And the radio slices I heard were even worse.

These loonies are living in lala land.

First rule of politics is if someone says something you don't like but it may be true, do something to divert attention from the issue at hand even if that means just saying the most rediculous or incredulous thing that springs to mind.

Perhaps the main reason labour unions want to do away with labour brokers is they don't want competition to their business model.

A year and a half ago I had 7 staff - now I have none.

    I smile more these days...
