    importing inventory items into pastel

    Good day

I am struggling to import inventory items into pastel.

One spread sheet will work and the next will give me errors.

Please I need help - It took me three years to get the Directors to buy Pastel and now that we have it the problems are never ending.

    Regards

    Stenette

Hi Stenette, it will help if you provide the exact nature of the errors.

    Hi Stenette,

The three columns in the Inventory Masterfile import CSV file, that give the most problems, are the Group column (AB), the Store column (AJ) and the Category column (AK), as these codes all have leading zeroes.

The very nature of a CSV file is that, when you open it, it drops any leading zeroes in numbers. The way to handle this is to insert a single quotation mark in front of the leading zero, i.e. store code 1 will display as '001. Then save the CSV file, but don't close the file until you have successfully imported the file, otherwise the leading zeroes will drop off again.

    Hi Neville

I tried importing a inventory item file based on your suggestion and included the quotation mark in the group field, I also left the file open while importing but I get a run-time error and Pastel closes. Anything else I can try?

    Hi blueboy,

Can you please send me a copy of your CSV file so that I check where the problem could be?

There were a number of errors with your CSV file.

Firstly, you need to delete the heading row.

You only had three selling price columns, instead of 10. Even though Xpress only provides for 3 price lists (whereas Partner provides for 10), you still need to have all 10 columns in the CSV file.

You only had one column for the user defined text fields, instead of 3. The same applies to the user defined numeric fields.

The last four columns were displaced from from the 4th last heading, i.e. Commission Item.

I have fixed the errors and attached the modified CSV file. I have left the heading row in so that you can see what I have changed, but you must delete that row before you save the file and import it. Also, you will need to reformat the Group, Category and Store data cells.
