Well, my opinion is that government is employed by us, there to serve us and definitely there to keep us informed on the laws we are supposed to live by. Charging us money for this makes no sense if our taxes are supposed to pay for this. Publicizing the law is not a service, it is a requirement and therefor charging us money for it makes no sense nor is it acceptable.

I agree totally. The government should not charge us, but they are government, what can we do? They will always look for ways to make money as it ensures the higher ups bigger paychecks. GO PAUL!!!!!!

Yeah! But you don't want to see the file sizes. Huge!

We're investigating a way to give some sort of synopsis or index so that people will only download what they're interested in.

If it is in pdf format, maybe I can be of assistance, I do have a couple of nice applications to reduce file size and to convert it maybe into another type of file that might not be as big. Just give me a holler

The main problem right now is getting the files, everything is on a server that needs to be downloaded before it can be compressed....

Maybe if those converters can help us get the files into a readable format for the forum, ... ? any ideas?

But those files are in the range of 5-20meg....there are quite a lot of them, but that doesn't seem THAT big, or am I missing something? Although the server space would fill quite quickly with the sheer volume of it all.

I don't know if you've noticed how Yahoo spiders tend to swarm... and 50 x 20 meg files is a Gig. Not so bad on server storage space, but seriously gobbling bandwidth (the real cost to this - thanks Telkom).

With the actual copy being available on a server already, the trick would be to have a searchable index that would point a person in the right direction. The current location is not exactly browse friendly unless you know the specific date and the Gazette number.
