South African Railways models are very expensive because the are hand built is small quantities. One could pick up a basic American set for about R2K

My models start at R390 and go up R10K (each)

    You Sir are an artist!

Are those steam engines just models or do they have electric motors to propel them?

The models have electric motors. The models also have DCC decoders with sound which allows them to be controlled digitally or even by a computer. I am installing a DCC decoder into one of them as we speak, I'll post photographs of the internals then you can see what the motor and electronics look like.

The guts of a model steam locomotive exposed. This model has been fitted with a DCC digital decoder. Notice that the wires running between the locomotive and the tender are braided together (there is noting like braiding teeny weeny wires whilst looking though a magnifying glass. You can't leave them loose and you can't use heatshrink either because the heatshink makes the wires too stiff. I found that braiding the little wires together works like a charm because the braid allows each wire a bit of freedom of movement.

All the masking tape is just to keep stuff in place during testing.

Nice photo's, those girls are so elegant on the ice, but tell me Adrian, did you at least go socialise with those ladies after the comp?
