    Tough night for squatter camp

About 9.30 last night, I could see a tower of flame and smoke in the valley below, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

This morning there's still some smoke -

Clearly it was a tough night for the people in this Redhill squatter camp last night!

A very good morning to you Dave,

Our people really live in plain horrible conditions. Besides the daily and on-going struggle for survival in a squatter camp, our fellow South Africans have to contend with fires, floods and other such disasters.

To feel the full magnitude of what our people endure, one need only visit a squatter camp at night.
Though our winter here in Johannesburg was mild compared to last year, I sometimes wonder, while in my bed covered with several blankets and duvets, how our people survive the winter in squatter camps. With all these blankets and in a house, I still feel cold, how much more so for people in squatter camps.

When these fires take place, it causes people to lose everything they own. Our government needs to do far more to get people decent and safe housing.

We are 16000 members, granted not all active, per se.
But if each gave R10-00 its R160 000, a fair amount of stuff for the people.

It may be a consideration, a pay it forward type action.

How about those people go back to where they came from and take up subsistence farming.

Less making babies and more hard work will do them the world of good.

Modern day beggars think that subsistence farming means to sit on your a$$ all day and wait for money to pop out a car window so that they get enough money each day to buy MacDonalds and airtime for the phone...this is clearly not the type of farming that I am referring to.

However you look at this, it is a sad event. No matter where these people come from or what their circumstances are, there is no need to be nasty. You cant judge everyone the same. You have never seen through their eyes, you have no right to judge them.

Well if Zuma did not build Nkandla but instead spent 250 million uplifting the people in the squatter camp.....
And if the ANC did not fucked up the economy we would be able to donate a lot more and the Government would have more money to spend on uplifting the people. All bribes and money stolen by cadres would have gone a long way.....

    Yeah, pretty impressive.

The structures themselves are pretty impressive too. Basic, sure - but there's clearly some thought that's gone into this approach.
