    Unwanted Spam?

    Hi Folks

I have been getting calls from 0215574083 for some time, this morning I answered just to hear an automated voice telling me of insurances, etc. They have phoned every half-hour this morning and I now just ignore the call. Problem is now they are filling my mailbox with messages. How do we get these morons off our backs?

Seems like a few people have had this problem. Not sure if this site can help you block the no, as they have advertised.

Have you got a smart phone (Android / iPhone / BlackBerry)? If so look for a call-blocking app in any of the app-stores. Some of these allow for a pick-up-hang-up on blocked numbers, that way they can't even leave a voice message. I've had one installed on my old Android for the last 4 years, works a charm. My new Samsung Note 2 has such already built-in, so no more need for the 3rd party app. I wonder if something similar can be done on a Telkom/NeoTel land-line?

I think even that EveryCall site has a mobile app such as this.

This particular stunt drives me bonkers

If you're going to spam me by a telephone call, at least have enough respect for my time to have a live person using their time making the call.

I've been in the habit of disconnecting as soon as I realise what's going on (and making a mental note if the company name has come up by then to put them on my "try to avoid using them ever" list), but perhaps a better deterrent is to hang in there and run up their bill

Dave it seems the trick is that it is voice activated, don't speak it doesn't activate the message. The problem for me is I am busy under a machine doing a repair and the phone rings, I have to wipe my hand clean get to the phone to find it is an insurance message ad, you cant even speak your mind and tell the person what you actually think of them.

People have also got wise to the private number thingy, no number no answer, so now they have a cell number indicated, so if you get a missed call and you now think is might be a customer instead it tells you this number doesnt exist.

One new law that I would like the government to bring in is that ALL call centres or phones from where a sales call is being made HAVE to show their numbers....

+1 ... why should they be allowed to hide themselves when they're advertising? The only possible reason is to screw with consumers who are attempting to block these intrusive calls, it should become an automatic fine as soon as they do this, no need for any court cases.
