IP address aliasing when using a VPN

Hi I'm trying to register pastel partner from a different location and I've set up a VPN from my location to the server's location using an application called gbridge. When registering pastel you need the name of the sever pc not the IP address and gbrige only sends the virtual IP address of the sever. How do I get pastel to pick up the name of the sever computer instead of its virtual IP address? The server runs windows xp and the two computers I'm trying to register run xp and vista.

Can't you just put a dns entry into the local hosts file to locally resolve the name

This seems complicated, isn't there a simpler solution or is what you are trying to do irregular?
