    System for keeping accurate stocks

    Hi all,

I run a manufacturing business and have battled for a while to get stocks to accurately balance. We do use an accounting system (Omni) with features to help with stock but this does not seem to work well enough. It might be because of the input from staff but I need some options.I am looking to upgrade or change to try and get things to work better.

    Any ideas?

    Rory,

There are a lot of accounting packages that are suitable for your requirements. You could use Pastel or Quickbooks. Both are reasonably priced but Quickbooks is easier to learn.

The secret to any accounting system though is keeping it updated so perhaps assigning one person to capture the stock element would be better.

The devil is in the detail.

Any stock based system requires a tremendous amount of discipline to maintain, even when you are very busy, or only one item is removed from stock for a repair or replacement.
It is not the accounting system, but rather the human element. Any accounting system is only as good as it's operators.
