Registering your company with the local Municipality

I am surprised that this has not evoked some criticism and discussion in this forum as yet.

Every business - no matter how small - will have to register (under threat of fine or imprisonment) every 5 years.

Can understand that it will be another way for municipalities to get money for nothing ... but don't understand how it is going to be managed effectively.

It came up here about a week ago. I was surprised at the muted response, but did pop off a quick email to ask for an extension of the deadline for comment. Based on that story, I was not alone.

It certainly would be the death of the informal sector - or the informal sector would go underground (if it isn't already technically underground anyway), or become victim to corrupt officialdom...

The flip side is there are a few positive ideas in the bill worth exploring - if not in respect of "all businesses must have a trading licence", but at least setting some standards in terms of municipal licencing processes already in place.

Thanks for the link Dave - I must have missed it first time round.

One of the challenges of an o.p. that's just a link, I think. And it was in the general business area.

(Actually, I'd better move it now while I'm thinking about it).
