Too many 4 working day weeks in a row

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I've had a guts fill with these 4 day weeks back to back like this.

You struggle to get the production out simply by virtue of the missing day each week.
Staff are filing for leave left right and centre, so you're down on production teams for the days you are open.
The staff that are in for work are not exactly going full steam because they're in a holiday mood.
Seems like the person I need to speak to at every supplier, debtor that missed their payment last month, and client I want booked in is on holiday and not contactable.

I have to agree with you. This side its exactly the same situation.Other than my courier company all my suppliers have been in a bit of a slow motion mode the last two weeks and the regular clients also not on time with their payments etc. As much as I love a long weekend I have to say that from a business perspective they are somewhat destructive. Those projects that are pushing deadlines fall behind slightly because staff has to get back into that work mode that normally takes another day or two before they kick into gear just for the weekend to knock on our doorsteps again

Yeah, you tend to get approx 3 days actual production out of every four day week. This time of year just highlights it because there's so many of them. They are very inefficient and it's a combination of many things all stacked in the same direction but as a business owner I don't know what you can do apart from plan for it as best as possible.

...and half the people do not even know what the holiday is for anyway. We have too many public holidays without any meaning. More than half of them can be done away with.

I'm quietly wondering if there is a compound effect because we've got this run of them back to back.

Or maybe this week just feels worse because it's the coastal school holidays.

Like I said in that other thread, we should have one Monday long weekend a month, simply put the name of the holiday you want to fit.

you can see all the business owners replying to this thread.

I am just so chuffed I don't have cable gangs and teams on the road anymore. Now I sub contract the excess work out to one man operations, which has proved to be rather challenging.

Do people still know what the different public holidays commemorate? I am sure that most workers do not even know what Worker's Day is for. For most it is just a day off work.

Has the time not come that we have a look at the real value of these public holidays and scrap half of them. I know that religious holidays are a thorny issue, but surely we can put our pride and prejudice in our pocket and scrap at least half of the others. A very small number of our population commemorate the Day of Reconciliation. We can then also scrap Human Rights day, Youth Day, Women's Day and Heritage Day.

Quick to change most things like road names and stuff, but a day off, I don't think so.

I am also pretty fed up with the holidays but I am lucky that I have some staff that care about what happens with production (and their pockets).I have been able to manufacture over the last 3 weeks but at a cost.

At least I can just about keep up with production!

It has been quite nice having a few days of rest with the family.
