    Joomla Upgrade

I have two websites on Joomla and looking after one also on Joomla. They are all on 1.5.
I was advised by my host to upgrade these.
Firstly I do not know how to go about doing it and secondly I am told that they are already on the highest 1.5 level and to go to 2.5 is quite an involved process. Are the guys just trying to pull a fast one on me or what should I do?
    Thanks

I'd say they're right on all counts.

You do need to upgrade because 1.5 has far too many security vulnerabilities. Upgrading from 1.5 to 2.7+ involves practically redeveloping the entire site.

You may, however, wish to wait for Joomla 3 to become the stable, since that has already been released. It could be around a year before it becomes commonplace, though. It's too early to move across now because too many extension developers will not have updated their components/plugins for the newer version of Joomla yet.

Take it from me, it's not a good idea to upgrade to something before it's been tried and tested, extensively...

My upgrade from 1.5 to 2.5 did not go so smoothly.
The original developer of the site said that he would do it and said that it would take him about 5 hours to do so. I am not sure whether he meant 5 weeks.
Anyway what happened is that most of the stuff that was on the site is now sort of working again.
Only one problem remains and that is that when an email is sent from the contact form on the site it does not land in my inbox and I have no idea where it goes to. My logic tells me that in the back end somewhere the system has to be told that the message should go to my email address. I unfortunately have no clue where to search for that particular "link" in the system on Joomla.
    Please help.

It was never going to be a 5 hour job. I did mention it's quite an involved process.

If you PM me your login details and the email address you want the form to go to I'll take a quick look and see if I can help.

Ermm that's the case if you're using Joomla's native contact functionality. (Which is not recommended)

In this instance Faan is using a Chronoforms, which is unfortunately the most complex form component availabile for Joomla.
