Changing customers control account and suppliers control account opening balances

    Hi

I hope someone can help me. I have had to change the opening balances relating to 2011 as the balances that were captured in Pastel before I joined were incorrect. I need the balances to tie up to the audited accounts. I prepared the trial balance from Pastel and compared it to a trial balance from the audited accounts and I have managed to sort out most accounts except for the customers control account and the suppliers control account. I have a balance sitting in the 2011 suspense account which relate to the customers control account and the suppliers control account.

I don't know how to clear the suspense account and transfer the balances to the customer control account and the suppliers control account as I am unable to post directly to these 2 control accounts. I do not know which individual customers/suppliers the balance relates to and I was hoping there was a way I can just adjust these control accounts and then in 2012 I can reconcile them.

    Please help.

    Thank you in advance
    Camille

The only way in which you can change the customer and supplier control account balances is by adjusting individual customer and supplier account balances.

If you do not yet know what the individual account balances are, then I suggest you create a temporary customer and supplier account and post the adjustments into them, using the customer/supplier journals, with the GL suspense account as the contra account. Once you have determined the breakdown at a later stage, you can reallocate the temporary customer/supplier balances to the respective individual accounts, via the GL suspense account.
