    Windows 8 Upgrade?

Well, are there any adventurous, early adopters out there that have upgraded their PC's to Windows 8?

I am using Windows 7 Pro and I qualify for a discounted upgrade to Windows 8 Pro - I only pay $14.99 for the upgrade.

I am burning with curiosity to see what it's like, but I am also a little nervous to take the plunge just yet.

Should I do it now, or should I wait?

I would not touch it with Julius Malema's barge pole. With for Service release 5 patch 2,765. 1000's of things are bound to stop working as usual with a new release of Windoze

I think that the absolute perfect CRAP computer would be an Ipad 7" running Windoze 8

I'm so weary of all the nonsense with upgrades that we are still runnning XP on all the machines...and they work well enough for all our needs

On the news last night it was reported that Windows 8 is brilliant for phones and tablets, but extremely "clunky" (was the word they used) on PC's.

Well, I did it and the sky has not fallen!

I first made a full image backup of my hard-drive and then installed the upgrade, selecting the option to transfer all my apps, settings and data.

It went very smoothly and, so far, everything seems to be working, including my programs and devices.

The interface is VERY different and there's a lot of re-learning to do, but I like it.

Yes, it does. It was the first thing I checked after installing it - even Pastel could not tell me, so I decided to find out for myself!

Windows 8 looks like a web junkie... I wouldn't bother installing it. Lots of dedicated applications to take control of your computer thus forcing you to do everything "there way" I wouldn't touch it... I just hope the free OS systems get application and game support soon. I don't like being connected ALL THE TIME and basically win8 is build for permanent online connections and gives you every opportunity to use your credit-card.

It appears as if windows 8 was designed for touch screen technology and that you would waste your time installing it on an older PC. Any experiences so far?

I cannot think of a single reason to change my machines from XP & Android to anything else. Going from XP to Windows 8 is like going from a Land Cruiser to an electric Fiat 500 when there is no powerpoint in sight. I agree with tec0, it is a straight link to your credit card.
