What does it mean to ‘switch’ my points?

This is the process of turning the points you have earned into a cash value on your smart shopper card. You can do this at any kiosk as long as you have at least 1 000 points in your smart shopper account.
Remember, 1 000 points equals R10 cash back on your card to spend on your next purchase or to donate to charity.

Right now I understand it a bit better. They are not actually rewarding us, this is a data capture process so that they can stock what we need and drop what is not popular thus saving them some real money. I feel like a sucker

    But that is life....

    I believe so...

I thought "If" I use the card all year round that I would accumulate enough points to help with some “end year” shopping. Now it turns out that the points is worth a bag of coco-pops... if that....

    Thanks PnP...

So you get a little something for nothing, but it is still less then useable so really is it worth registering? In my opinion no it is not. According to PnP I am not a big spender regardless of the fact that I spend a lot "according to me". So there is no real reward as promised when you sign up.

    That is a deal breaker...

As a small retailer I also try support other small local retailers. Most people have the idea that an independent shop would be more expensive than a chain, but often that is not the case. 99% of the time time I am cheaper than most of the sport chains but it's still a battle trying to convince customers of this fact. I often find better deals on meat and cheese at the local butcheries.

For every R1 you spend, we give you 1 smart point.
    1 000 points equals R10 cash back
    So, 1% of 1%...

Andy earned R2000 therefore he must spend R200 000. Andy, look again. I suspect you earned 2000 points, not rands. 2000 Points equates to R20 cash back! You could have spend a little less though, as some days you earn double points and various other promotional points get given. But if you only buy bread and milk, other basics, it seems not possible.

Nope, they get that info from their sales already. What they get now is what tec0 prefer... So now they can sms only tec0 if he is the only one buying xyz regularly.

If Andy is on Vitality, he would earn up to 8 or 10 times the points that an ordinary shopper would earn, so that is possible.

I also agree with Pap-sak to support the local small retailer. They are sometimes closer to home and stay open later at night. The convenience and saving in fuel (combined with friendly, personalised service) is worth the 20c - 50c extra.
