    solar lights installation

Is there any rules for powering domestic home lighting through solar power ?
Meaning running all 220 VAC lights through a small solar system, which is only there to power the lighting of the home.
So using the same switchgear and two circuit breakers for the lights, just from a different power supply.

    Is it allowable ??

We touched on the subject in this stand alone solar installation discussion, so that might be worth a read.

If you're switching between power sources for those lights, then the discussion on connecting backup generators to an existing installation might help.

Both discussions are pre amendment 8 though.

    Hi Dave .thanks.

Had a read through , and very interresting.
I guess almost anything can be done electrically , its just to make sure that the wiring laws is followed.
Currently thinking of sizing up a solar system for 12vdc 5w led lamps (x20) and using that as an main source of lighting for the home, though i think i wont get the same brightness out of the lamps as i would with normal cfl's.
I would save electricity though and will have light when eskom leaves us in the dark again.
