    Should I move from BB?

My phone contract with Vodacom is up for renewal this month.

I have been using a BlackBerry Curve for the past few years and I have generally been very happy with it, but now I am wondering whether it is time to make a change.

I am considering hopping onto the iPhone bandwagon, or perhaps the Samsung Galaxy.

    My questions are as follows.

Should I dump BB for one of these phones and, if so, which one?

There is talk that the new iPhone 5 will be launched within the next month or two. Should I wait or should I take the current iPhone 4S?

    Decisions, decisions...

Kevin, what does the Samsung phone have that has made you not look back?

I am tempted to get a Samsung phone as I have the Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet, so I guess there will be some sync options there as well as the interface being consistent between the two devices.

The only advantage in owning a BB is the BBM chat, if this is not a requirement the smart phone world is your oyster.

I lust after a Galaxy iii because I can have GPS and a kindle type app, otherwise internet, email, sms and phone is all I need it for.

I don't do 'faceboob' and I am not a 'twitter twat' although I would consider 'youtube' now and again.

    Hi Mr B

As you know I am still a fan of BB due to general slow connectivity where I am, data costs are stupid in this country, and the fact that I am fairly sure RIM will be around for at least the next 2 years despite all the negative (Use BBM a lot and then copy the chats to email for proofs/confirmations - much faster than just email). Since I don't have a "pad" all my mobile data is via phone, so my bandwidth usage would cost a fortune if wasn't using BIS (Blackberry).

In your case I would go the Android route (Samsung) as it suites your business + the fact that you already using a "pad" from same (warning, the OS is different on the 2, similar but not quite the same). THis is only because I don't know of any other decent Android based product out there. With the right tools even your remote work can be done with an android phone as the browsers are powerful (try LogMeIn if you want awesome remote access direct from "pad" or phone - sure you will love it). I am very anti-Apple mainly because of the lock-in.

PS: Your GPS will get jealous as you will almost never turn it on again

I personally love Samsung. My Galaxy Tab 10.1 is at my side a lot of the time. If I had use for a clever phone then it would have to be an SIII. That said, both my daughters are BB besotted and that is all they want. 6 of the one and half a dozen of the other, stick to what you are comfortable with.

Picked up my shiny new Samsung Galaxy S3 phone this morning - now I have to wait for 4 hours before the sim-swap takes effect, so I can't play yet!

So, for a while, I am on the dark side of the moon...

What is the cost comparison for data etc?
I have also noticed that Vodacom is now the most expensive, followed by MTN. This also applies to handsets which may vary up to R100 pm for the same package.

It appears as if contract is still cheaper than prepaid, unless you make only one or two calls per month. My wife still has a credit from R50 airtime I purchased in June! (Yes I trained her well, but she also use a land line.)

Neville, we'd like some feedback once you get to use your new phone.

I've had iPad 2 since they came out and I'm very happy with it, I played with Galaxy tabs a few times but I must say I don't like them for some reason so I stick to apple. As far as BB is concerned I've used 3 different blackberrys in the past 5 years and I'm very happy with them, besides I don't like full touch screen phones
