    Old R200 note

Pick n Pay just refused a R200 from one of my staff members and I had to go sort it out, as they kept her there.

Long story short, they called her back when she almost left the front doors and could not prove the note was received from her, as there was other R200 notes in the cash drawer as well. Also, they first said it is counterfeit, but when I questioned them on why they claim that, they changed the story to it is not counterfeit, but an old note without the diamonds printed at the bottom.

My question now is what is the situation with regards to old notes without the diamonds at the bottom?

Old R200 notes are no longer in circulation, and will require you to go to the Reserve Bank, or an agency of the reserve bank to exchange the note for a new note.

    Thanks.

So you can just refuse it as legal tender. No need to treat anyone like a criminal.

Just as a side note. In Pick n Pay's heyday, they would have accepted all these notes, without a problem, accumulate them and go change them once it is worth while, to assist their customers. These days, the cashier chases after you, shouting like a bitch, drawing everyones attention to you and make you feel like a criminal. How times have changed!
