So much for Direct insurance being cheap!

In the last week I have twice quoted against Outsurance.

The one guy said that he was letting me as he was recommended by a friend, but did not expect anything, as the Outlaws were so cheap compared to his old Insurers when he transferred 2 years ago.

I saved the first guy 28%.

The second - who said I had no chance - 42.1%. Nearly R1,000 per month.

And - categorically - both have MUCH wider covers. ALL their goods are now on a full All Risks basis - and this means ANYTHING that they take out of the house is automatically covered....

So much for "saving lots of premium by cutting out the middle man"!

And then we have the HIPPO - the majority (if not all) the quotes are from the same company>

Just shows how powerful the marketing that they do is.
People are so blinded by the adverts they do not even see this.

Agreed, a needs analysis is essential in any advisory function, whether an architect or a zoom lens salesman. It is the unprofessional way in which these people are trying to get a foot in the door that irritates me.

It is easy to spot a professional. they do their homework and they get an introduction or will approach you in a professional manner. They do the GROUNDWORK. Unsolicited cold cold calling is for broom salesmen and is not for professional people. Would you go to a doctor, dentist or lawyer who solicits clients by calling everyone in the phone book at night?

What's the difference between working a client's list of contacts and unsolicited cold calling?

Well, I had a phone call at 8am this morning. A RECORDING was trying to sell me insurance. Now that is cheap!!

There is a big difference between prospecting and cold calling. A shotgun approach, calling as many numbers as possible and hoping for a hit is unprofessional. Are there really people who would buy from such cold callers?

I think that is the case with ALL Direct Insurers.

AND - when you phone them to cancel - do they suddenly drop their rates to try and keep you!

You are right re Hippo - while they quote on different providers all are in the Telesure group - Auto and General, First for Women, Budget, Dial Direct ......

NOTHING wrong with Auto and General - their service is great.

Phil, I don't like those companies either and I don't mean to be rude or anything but if you want to advertise your services there's a section in the forum where you can do that, however naming companies and talking against them is not ethical and is one of the things that can void your "fit and proper" status therefore removing your license(I'm sure you know that). It's not like I'm gona now report you to the FSB but come on just be ethical doesn't matter how crap a company is, I know where you are coming from, I'm sure you are saying it beacuse of claims, premiums and etc you have seen, just be professional thou, give people great service and they will stick with you, quality and trust is all that it takes
