    Hi Anesu,

Do you have a current qualification?

I believe it's a Masters in Taxation, but I stand to be corrected. My opinion is that specialising in tax can be a very good idea, but you do need solid grounding in accounting to understand the relationships between the two.

Your best path is probably a Bachelor in Accounting Science --> Honours --> Masters in Tax. A tough course indeed.

You can become a tax specialist for an auditing firm (or other companies) or a self-employed tax practitioner, both of which are highly sought after professionals. If you decide you want to open your own tax practice, then you are going to need bring in knowledge from a wide variety of areas in order to market yourself effectively enough.

Give us some more information about yourself and I'm sure somebody can point you in the right direction.

That sounds like you're pretty much on the right track.

I believe that the post grad diploma will open the door to a Masters in Taxation, if I recall correctly. You will need to double check this with UNISA, though.

Beware, though. That post grad diploma you are referring to is tough. I'm currently doing that (or similar - I'm not sure whether it is equivalent to a CTA level 1) while working full time and it's not easy. Even the smartest are failing tests and having to wake up early each morning and spend weekends studying. The volume is the problem when you're working full time.

If you know that it's what you want to do, then go for it. Put your head down and realise that it's only a year or two of your life to gain entrance to a really illustrious profession.

For me like the income tax and the sales tax requirements and imposing duty should be classified clearly to the general people u know so that they can easily understand the terms and conditions and the levying duty pattern and the categories falling under it..

There is also a diploma in taxation. It is three years. i note that many specialists do this. Lawyers do LLB and then the 3 year course.
Price water house also has a tax internship/articles program. Perhaps seeing the requirements for that may be good.
