Help! Scrolling up or down pages very jerky.

When I scroll up or down any internet page using my mouse the effect is very jerky not smooth as it used to be. Can anyone offer a solution to this problem? I am using Internet Explorer and connecting to the internet on Telkom ADSL via a router. My wife has her own laptop on the same system and does not suffer this problem so I guess the problem lies within my laptop.

All helpful comments will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Malcolm

Your laptop is busy doing something else while you are trying to work. Could be that you are running out of disk space and the drive is starting to thrash.

Most browsers have settings for scrolling behaviour. Here's the Firefox window you can find under tools>options>advanced.

As adrianh has recommended, your laptop might be busy with other stuff, or simply underpowered for the task at hand.

Does this happen to all web pages, or just some?
And what happens when you reboot and try again?
What other applications do you have open at the same time?

Try and upgrade IE, Flash Player, Java and your graphics drivers to the latest version, and try again?
Alternatively, try Firefox or Google Chrome?

    What are your laptop specs?

Thanks for all your interest and suggestions for overcoming the problem. Although the problem seems to have sorted itself out a day or two ago I realised that I am just pushing my laptop too far with current limitations of memory, RAM and hard drive. My operating system is also the outdated Vista. So I have taken the plunge and ordered a new HP laptop with using Intel i7, 1TGB HD and 6Gb RAM. This hopefully will see me through for a few more years. My fun of course will start when the machine arrives and when I start transfering all my stuff from the old to the new. My knowledge of such things is quite lacking and no doubt I will need to do some quick learning particularly on how to bring my Outlook pst files accross.

    Best regards,
    Malcolm
