Does email notification count as Written notice to cancell contract

I have a service contract with an IT company, and the termination clause states that each party can give 90days "writen notice" to cancel the contract
It does not, however states that the "written notice" must be in a form of letter or email.

can I give a "written notice" by sending email?
Does email written notification count as "Written notice" to cancell the contract

Hi there,
I would say yes. Emails are so commonly used these days. I have cancelled many contracts by way of email and has never been informed by any institution that it was unaccpetable.
I would just suggest that you request them to confirm receipt of your email & and confirm that they accept the notification....wait 24 hours and if you don't get any written confirmation then you would have to phone them and find out what's what.

Just to add 2c to that.
To do it more formally would be to do a complete document on letterhead, pdf it and attach rather than just a basic email. In effect this is similar in legal terms as a fax, whereas a standard email is sometimes not recognised by courts when there is any chance that it might have come from unauthorised source or have been tampered with during forwarding (when you forward a mail the dates, names & content can be changed).

I really wonder about PDF. It is so easy to open them up and fiddle witu them, nothing in electronic format is tamper proof. Coreldraw X5 opens a PDF that isn't password protected and there are 100's of password crackers available on the net.

I would agree that it's always worth bearing in mind the security issues of pdf and other formats but in this case it shouldn't be an issue and an attached pdf ought to be acceptable as notice to terminate.

Free product out there with proper limiting and encyption - PDFCreator, also seems to make smaller files than CutePDF which doesn't have encryption in the free version. Just takes a little more setup and config.
