Does any one perhaps know where I may obtain the latest version of Linux preferably in or near Cape Town? The download size is some 685Mb and it will keep my machine busy for hours with all the accompanying risks.
Thanks

It's available as an official torrent download which would reduce the risks of failed downloads etc and allow you to stop and start at will.
Alternatively most half decent computer shops will give you a copy of Ubuntu over the counter for the price of the disk.
Finally you could email these guys.

If that fails you could buy a copy of the latest PC Format they normally come with a DVD disc with a copy of the latest linux distro. Also you might want to try puppy linux it is a very small linux distro 132MB. http://www.puppylinux.com/
The March 2012 edition of Linux Format has Ubuntu on the accompanying DVD. You might still find an old copy on the shelf somewhere. CNA have replaced all theirs already - I checked today.
Or try Frogfoot Networks, in Mowbray. They (used to?) have a Freedom Toaster from which you can copy the CD

Or even better yet, join your local LUG: http://wiki.clug.org.za/wiki/Main_Page
You'd probably find many who'd like to give you tips and help. Never mind the Toaster at UCT or that you could copy the CD from some helpful member.
