    Advice on reaching only the Soweto market online

    Hi Guys,

    Hi Guys,
    1. I usually advertise in the Sowetan and the lenasia Times;
    2. My target market has always been largely the black market specifically in terms of geograhics Soweto
    My question is , How can one reach this market specifically online i..e the Sowetan newspaper is bought by and large by the Black market so one is assured that an advert in such a newspaper will reach mostly this target market.

    Unless you have a site that attracts a specific type of person, your ads probably won't reach only the people you want them to reach.

    You could create a site that attracts people from Soweto by giving information on local happenings, running competitions for people living in Soweto or anything else that would appeal specifically to Sowetonians (for lack of a better word). You could then run ads on the site. Be warned tough, without decent content, such a site won't work - no-one reads pages with ads and nothing else. That would be like reading the yellow pages just for the fun of it.

    This might be a stupid question, but do you know how many people in Soweto actually have internet connections? Of course, many people have mobile phones with internet capabilities, but would your ads be worthwhile on the (very) small screen? How about putting up a billboard?

    Hi Riaan,

    Thank you, you have shared a vast wealth of advise to me. The billboard idea is absolutely brilliant but we are a very small business and would not afford to pay primedia for regular billboard advertising. Be that as it may, this led me to think about phamplets.
    I'm looking at the very basics of marketing here, i.e. disposable income of "Sowetonians," and well as our product offerings.
    By and large the vast majority of clients we secured for prescription debts and business plans has been the Black target market. Since, I'm in Lenasia, Soweto is right next to me and this strategy therefor makes perfect sense.

    Are you on Facebook? You can target specific areas + a certain radius. I think there are a lot of people living in Soweto with Facebook access. Just go and check out some political pages.
