    buy your hardware NOW

Have you planned a bit of maintenance? Do you need that extra hard drive or monitor, but have just been too lazy to get it now?
Get it. The floods have pushed up the prices of items, and according to this article, it only gets worse...

I heard it's hard drives and monitors that are likely to be impacted.

Too late already. The quote I got stipulates 1 day price only due to floods.

collected a 500 gig hard drive on friday and was advised by the supplier that there is a shortage and they only have selected few sizes left...

The solution to this is not to import but rather make our own stuff? I would imagine that it can be profitable for South Africa and we can have more jobs. Imagine we will have access to tech dirt cheap? Maybe it is something to consider?

Government wouldn't go for it simply because it wouldn't create a lot of jobs. I should rather say, it wouldn't create a lot of jobs for people without research and technical skills.

    Like our motor vehicles
If it was going to be cheaper to produce this sort of thing in SA, the factories would have been set up here in SA rather than Vietnam, Thailand etc.
