    Telkom uncapped

I must first say - I am really not good with computers but now decided that it is time to downgrade on my telkom adsl line as i just use it for mails, browsing and obviously the forum and with telkom going to introduce their new rates for uncapped - i am going to wait till 1 October.

What a disappointment when i looked at the prices i was really shocked.... as telkom is surely a market leader?

on my 4 mbps line (not the line rental included) telkom charges R2097 per month compared to mweb R539.... i know you do get better options but still there is a big difference between the two...

did they not do market research? not one of their prices is really a good option....

you can also look at the price comparisons here

or am i missing something here?

Maybe MWeb throttle certain traffic protocols at certain times of the day, Telkom supposedly don't on their uncapped 4 meg line package. That aside the prices are absolutely shocking.

What do you use the internet for that might require 4 meg speed and no bandwidth cap?

Cybersmart recently launched a ‘R99 for 10GB’ special offer where their DSL 1Mbps subscribers can get ADSL data at less than R10 per GB.

You have to have the ADSL portion of your line with them as well but they're cheaper than Telkon for that as well. Check them out, they have some very interesting if not off the wall package options.

"or am i missing something here?" geraldlenek.

As they say & i'm hoping i have the saying correct when i say that theres some guilding in the nilly here. Now that does not sound right.

Anyway my uncapped 4m speed incl telkom's portion of line rental payable to Mweb is R899 per month, all in.

For what you are using it for you can reduce your speed and significantly drop the price. You don't even need a 1Mb line. Whether shaped or unshaped also makes a big difference.

There is another factor to consider with Telkom?
I use the 'Closer' option and I get a large number of free phone call minutes to local numbers every month.

Now I dont know if this also applies to their uncapped option or not? but if it does it must be calculated into the equation.

Must say i have downgraded to the 1mbps line last week - went for Afrihost and still the line at Telkom but was just really shocked with telkoms price difference - maybe its because of the speed as AndyD said.

And maybe also because of the fact that there is no price difference between their 4 and 10 mpbs

From the horse's mouth. Keep an eye on Telkom. Before the end of the year you can get uncapped with 4meg line at about R300

    Hi there,

Can't say I am Telkom's biggest fan... Perhaps consider the latest 3G specials on offer? I am on 3G and could never be happier! Look into CellC and 8ta.
