China Imports for Dummies - Initial Production Inspections

    Hi all,

So, next up is Initial Production Inspections for your manufacturing in China.

This is a much overlooked inspection type, but has a lot of value, expecially in high volume orders. Incoming QC of raw materials and components is most useful at an early stage as it allows for an initial check of conformity, and an early warning should there be problems. That early warning can give your supplier enough time to fit the components to meet specifications.

Typically, this type of inspection is performed when about 5% of the product is completed, thereby giving you insight on the components/raw materials, and how the finished product will look and function.

Also, should your product need lab-testing/certification for end-market compliance, the inspector can pick and seal random samples. By keeping a close eye on the supplier at this early stage sends a positive, pro-active message to them and can help avoid tears later.

Short and sweet today - do your Initial Production QC Inspections!!!

These days china products are all over the world. When outsourcing your industry to China with low production costs, product inspection should be a high priority.

Hi there, my name is Dewet. I would really appreciate any help regarding procuring printer cartridges from china.

From my limited experience in dealing with China, I know that it is tricky and there are always scammers and legitimate business side by side with some grey areas in between.
If you look at, e.g. "made-in-china.com” they are a big B2B portal and you will find both happy and scammed clients depending on which company or companies they dealt with.

I don’t wish to steal your hard earned experience in this regard, just a small push in the right direction by anybody who might have some good advice

pmbguy ... my best advice would be to go to China to source from a reputable manufacturer.

I have started bringing in containers from China in the last 2 years and have been pleasantly suprised.I did my homework on suppliers and got references. We also used an Inspection company to inspect the goods before they were sent. This was far cheaper than having to get onto a plane and checking myself. You can specify what you want them to check/audit.

The Chinese company we deal with are courteous, organised and very prompt.I don't think that they actually sleep to be honest! It is easier for me to do business with them than some local companies to be honest.

    Any questions just shout.

The Inspection company we used was Top Inspection and the starter of this thread used to work for them.I can recommend them for sure.

  10. Thanks given for this post:

@pmbguy - I travel extensively to China to source products and attend exhibitions. Never learnt the language as I have a local agent that does all my negotiations and inspections on that side.
