    Help Identify

Can anybody help me to identify the type of resistor and particularly the approx wattage.

The resistor is 8 mm in diameter and 30 mm long.
I managed to find the resistance at 2 K ohm but have no further details besides that it comes out of a high frequency power supply for my wire cutter and is +- 20 years old and appears to be a "clamping" resistor.

Would an aluminum encased resistor work ?

I am sure that the ALU resistor will work, as the resistor is probably used to dissipate any energy left in the motor windings when it is switched off. It may be a 5 Watt resistor. In the old days the resistors were physically larger than today's types.

What makes you think that the resistor is faulty?
How did you come to the conclusion that it is 2K ?

This resistor is used in a high frequency voltage generator to facilitate the actual spark that erodes the steel away while working.

    Great Martin,
An Aluminum resistor is really just a cover to help remove the heat from the resistive wire, and usually used for 25W and higher power ratings. You can probably get a 2200Ohm resistor from Mantech
