Burglar Guard Maker/installer recommendation required

Have been a victim of crime about 2 weeks ago. Home burglary whilst home occupied. Fortunately no one was hurt & the b......s took what they wanted. Need to re-spruce my burglar guard security AND NEED SOME REASONABLE RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE.

About a year ago i had guards fitted at road level. On approval of quote i paid a 50% deposit & was left whistling for 3 months to get the installer to keep his side of the deal.when it was finally installed, i paid the balance never getting what was originally discussed.

Earlier this week , through a Gumtree ad, i had a youngster give a quote. He knew what he was talking about. However i felt uncomfortable when i realised that he wanted the 50% put into his wife's account. This might well have been above board but i just don't want to be in a similar position that i was last year.

I'd suggest 6mm x 30mm clear perspex bars on the insides of the windows. You should be able to get the plastics supplier to cut the strips to order for you and it's an easy job to install them on wooden window frames if you're a DIY kinda guy.

We live on a river and the Roboguards have changed our lives from a security point of view. They are especially good for protecting you while you are home, as no-one can move around undetected, for example when you are in the back yard entertaining friends etc. They can be toggled on and off individually, are wireless, and can easily be installed DIY. You can also start small and grow the system as and when funds become available.

I believe its a very special plastic, not just perspex. I used to laugh them off until a friend showed them to me in action. I never tried to break any as I would not want to have them to replace them. My friend invited me to do whatever I like. I could not break them. They bend a bit in one direction, but do not break. As an engineer I am quite impressed. He said he hung on to one and pulled the screws out rather then breaking the strip. Just ask your insurance what the max distance between them can be as if its too wide and they bend a bit someone could get through. Its a special material and he got it wholesale, but I forgot its name.

Sorry, my mistake I meant polycarbonate but for some reason I typed perspex. Polycarbonate is very resiliant, if it's 6mm thickness by 30mm bars it's as good as steel if not better in some respects. The only disadvantage with polycarb is that it can be compromised with a blowtourch but that said I have an 18 volt Li-ion grinder and I challange you to show me an off-the-shelf burglar bar that it won't make mincemeat of.

Nothing can't be broken and I hate bars of any kind, but once I did my alteration to my house I will consider the polycarb see through option for sure.
