    [Question] voluntary retrenchment

    Hi

Voluntary retrenchment packages were recently offered by my employer. These packages were communicated to those who wished to apply. Terms & conditions were that these applications and approvals were subject to management approval/discretion. Sad as it may seem, I did apply but my application for voluntary retrenchment was declined.

On submitting a formal appeal I was informed by HR that I needed to state categorically why my current position could be made redundant.

As far as I understand how things work is that if you volunteer for a retrenchment package, your current position is NOT made redundant and the position can still be filled.

If you however are forced into a retrenchment then the position is to be made redundant.

I did appeal against the outcome (declined in my case) but have received no answer regarding my
    appeal.

Could somebody please shed light on this. I dearly need the package as I need to start off my own thing asap.

Not much of a motivation from the company's point of view, but good to see you've got your priorities sorted
    Participation is voluntary.
