    Electric Heating Load Rating

    Hi all a unusual query landed in my inbox this morning a electric heating system is rated 6kw now it is supplied via a 3 phase supply is it 6kw per phase or as in a 3 phase motor is it total load 6 kw in other words is it 2kw per phase or6 kw per phase I asked them to check the amperage rating but agai is it collective amps or amps per phase lets have some answers

    Typically motor ratings would be for the entire motor, i.e. 6kW total power consumed (not 6kW per phase).

      The power rating should be for the unit on which the power rating is being given.

      As an aside: this raised an interesting discussion at the office on the consequences of a phase going down i.r.o. motors vs heaters.
